Fire Investigation Industries provides professional fire investigative training to fire departments, public and private fire investigator, law enforcement, attorneys, and insurance professionals. Fire Investigation 1A - "Basic Fire Investigation"

Fire Investigation 1A “Basic Fire Investigation” is a California State Certified course that provides information on securing the fire scene and determining the origin and cause of the fire. Topics include responsibilities of a fire investigator, securing the fire ground, conducting an exterior and interior survey, analyzing fire patterns, interpreting individual fire patterns, discriminating the effects of explosions, examining and removing fire debris, reconstructing the area of origin, inspecting the performance of building systems. The 2022 edition of NFPA 1033 Standard Professional Qualifications for Fire Investigator is the basis for this course.

Fire Investigation 1B - "Evidence, Documentation, Interviews, and Wildland"

Fire Investigation 1B “Evidence and Documentation” is a California State Certified course that provides information on scene documentation and evidence collection/preservation. Topics include photographing the scene, diagramming the scene, constructing investigative notes, processing evidence and establishing chain of custody, processing victims and fatalities, selecting evidence for analysis, maintaining a chain of custody, preparing a fire investigation report, and disposing of evidence. The 2022 edition of NFPA 1033 Standard for Fire Investigator Professional Qualifications is the basis for this course.

FI 210 "Wild Land Fire Investigations"

The primary purpose of this course is to provide a consistent knowledge and skill base for the Wildland Fire Investigator (INVF). The concepts taught in this course will help an INVF perform at an acceptable level on a national basis without regard to geographic boundaries. The course is presented by lectures, electronic presentations, field exercises, and class discussion.

Objectives

  • Perform the common roles and responsibilities of an INVF involved in an initial investigation environment.
  • Practice wildland fire investigation methods, evidence collection and documentation processes in a realistic environment.
  • Identify the laws, regulations and related court procedures associated with administrative, civil and criminal litigation processes.
  • Describe the fundamentals of investigation.
  • Know the elements of professional code of ethics.

Target Group

Recommended training for experienced fire personnel and law enforcement officers with wildland fire investigation responsibilities.

Prerequisite Qualifications and Training

  • Recommend students have law enforcement or firefighter experience. An interactive, self-paced precourse work will familiarize students with the background information necessary to successfully complete the course.

"Forensic Vehicle Fire Investigation"

Forensic Vehicle Fire Investigation “Live Vehicle Burns – Hands on Vehicle Fire Investigations with an Expert” is a specialized five- day, 40 hour course, that is designed for fire, law enforcement, and insurance investigators and follows the guidelines outlined in NFPA 921, as well as NFPA 1033. Students will participate in live vehicle burns to analyze fire times, patterns, and temperatures using the scientific method and a systematic approach and analysis.

The highlights of this course include a demonstration of incendiary, electrical, fluid, mechanical, and friction caused fires. Students will also obtain knowledge about vehicle fraud investigations, vehicle mechanical inspections after a vehicle fire, speed control deactivation switches, the relation between tire failure and fires, hazards created by safety devices, forensic locksmith examination, bearing failure, and fluid analysis.

"Advanced Fire Dynamics and Pattern Analysis"

Electrical Related Fire Investigations “A Hands-On Approach to Investigating Electrically Caused Failures” is a one-day, 8 hour course, that covers the electrical aspects of NFPA 921 and 1033 as it pertains to fire investigations. This inter-active and hands-on approach will allow the student to examine electrical failures in a controlled environment and apply their knowledge, skills, and abilities to their fire scenes. This course consists of class room information that covers various electrical subjects including basic electricity and electrical failures mixed in with outdoor hands-on live demonstrations where the student will actually be able to observe electrical events not normally seen in person.
